How do you get the plastic putrid smell out of a new desk chair?
It is so bad it gives me headaches and makes me feel ill. I bought the chair from Office Depot and have had it for a month. It is made from leather and vinyl. It is disgusting...I thought a few weeks would get the smell out, but it has not. It gets me worried because I am pregnant also and I wonder what it is doing to my baby.
If it were me, and I were pregnant, I wouldn't go near it. They're called VOC's and they're what's responsible for new car smell. They're not good for you or the baby.
They do dissipate over time. One way to speed up the process is to set the offending chair in the hot sun. It'll heat it up and help vaporize the chemicals. But for now, get it out of your house. I'd also try politely returning the chair for a refund. Stinky is a defect.
