•The basilica is located in a hill N. of Paris, 129 meters above sea-level.
•It is built on the Montmartre. Traditionally the martyrdom of the first bishop of Paris, Saint Denis.
•In 1870, two French men vowed to build a church consecrated to the Heart of Christ after France was occupied by German troops in the Franco-Prussian War.
•It was completed in 1914.
•The style of the basilica is Romano-Byzantine, inside and out.
•The inside is composed of mosaic and stained glass windows.
•The outside is made from Travertine stone.
•From the top of the dome, the whole city of Paris can be seen.
•It is the highest point in Paris.
•The project was financed by generous donations. The names of the donors are carved in the walls.
•It has a large organ build by Aristide Caraillé-Coll.
